Death Threats Rattle Tech BloggerBBC news report that Kathy Sierra, who name-checked me a few months ago on her blog Creating Passionate Users, is calling on the blogging community to stand up against threatening behaviour online.
Apparently Kathy started to find blog posts of a threatening and sexual nature four weeks ago, and has been so intimidated by them that she has been afraid to leave her house. This has forced her to cancel a presentation at the upcoming O'Reilly ETech conference in San Diego.
It's believed that the threats are aimed at Kathy because she's a woman in a male-dominated profession*. Whatever the reasons, it is, of course, entirely unacceptable behaviour and we should all offer our unstinting moral support to Kathy while this wierdness gets sorted out. (Because, let's be frank, whoever's behind those posts is obviously not the full shilling.)
* I know, that sounds surreal to me, too. Surely not in the ultra-modern, politically-correct IT industry? Alas, it seems so.
